Cumbria Futures Forum will promote:

  • The understanding of Cumbria as a contained community generating, importing and using energy, emitting and absorbing CO2 .
  • The reduced generation and import of energy from non-renewable sources
  • The increased generation of power from low carbon sources
  • The reduced consumption of energy from all sources
  • The development of carbon sinks

We will:

  • Map, understand and measure the problems - understanding where we are.
  • Explain and promote opportunities - being clear where we want to be.
  • Inform and influence policy - know how to get there
  • Measure and celebrate impact - monitoring performance

Our initial, but not exclusive, focus will be on climate change.

We will promote an understanding of the long term issues through scenario planning to consider how the future economy, environment and communities of Cumbria might evolve and to understand how action taken now might affect the scenarios. We will develop an approach that focuses on the need to break down the process of change into simple, clear, understandable, manageable stages/ sectors - eg by impact, by sector, by time, by place.

We will seek:

  • Maximum buy-in to its aspirations at all levels - individuals, organisations, policy makers.
  • To provide leadership and inspiration, guidance and support.

We will achieve this through:

  • Advocacy and challenge
  • Thinking and research
  • Networking and communicating
  • Promoting and celebrating

We will ask:

  • What can we do individually?
  • What can we do together?
  • What can we do for others?
